Nelson at a Glance
Once home to settlers and prospectors, Nelson's population soared during the mining
boom of the late 1800s. The character of those days remains an integral part of
the town. Its streets are flanked by buildings now a century old, with many of
them designated historical sites. Today, the brick and mortar house a wealth of
coffee shops, restaurants and a number of artists' studios. With a temperate climate
and charming setting, Nelson is a natural draw for artists and during summer months
their contribution to the community is made public during Artwalk.
Prints, paintings and sculptures deck the walls and halls of Nelson's cafes and
shops. A recreational getaway, Nelson also boasts vast hiking and water sport
opportunities. In winter Whitewater
Ski Resort opens, and it features both downhill and cross-country skiing.
